Dermabrasion:
Dermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure often used to treat fine facial wrinkles or acne scars. This is accomplished using a hand held, motorized device with a rough tip or burr at its tip. The tip spins at a high rate of speed that can be controlled by the surgeon and removes the outermost layer of skin to make the scar or wrinkles less visible.
What to expect
The resulting skin with appear raw and soon form a crust as it begins to heal. Application of an ointment is often recommended to keep the treatment area from getting too dry or cracking causing additional discomfort. Underneath, a new layer of pink colored skin is forming. The pink color typically takes a couple months to fade and blend with the surrounding skin.
Be sure to protect this new skin from the sun while it continues to heal and transitions to a pigment that matches the surrounding skin.
