Call Oceana Aesthetics today or schedule an appointment online to find out if you’re a candidate for hair transplantation.

What is hair transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a type of surgery that replaces lost and thinning hair. The procedure involves implanting scalp tissue from one area to another to encourage new hair growth. During surgery, Dr. Blumenauer removes small pieces of hair-bearing scalp tissue from your head and cuts them into small pieces to create grafts.

With a modern approach to aesthetic surgery, Dr. Blumenauer collaborates with each patient to ensure they are satisfied with their hair transplantation results.

Who is a candidate for hair transplantation?

Dr. Blumenauer may recommend hair transplantation for patients who experience:

  • Male-pattern or female-pattern baldness
  • Individuals who have tried nonsurgical hair restoration
  • Those who want thicker eyebrows, mustaches, or beards
  • Adults with hair loss from prior surgery or scarring

After a comprehensive consultation, Dr. Blumenauer can determine whether you’re a candidate for hair transplantation. He does not usually recommend hair transplantation for patients with underlying conditions, such as alopecia areata.

What can I expect from hair transplantation?

Before the hair transplantation, Dr. Blumenauer administers an anesthetic to numb your scalp. Next, he removes small grafts that contain individual or a few hair follicles, depending on their shape and size. In general, round grafts contain fewer hairs than strips. He then relocates the grafts to areas of the scalp with thinning hair or bald patches.

Hair transplantation may require multiple surgical sessions to achieve your desired results. After your initial procedure, Dr. Blumenauer may recommend waiting a few months for the healing period to complete and for new hair growth to form before he schedules your next visit.

What happens after hair transplantation?

After hair transplantation, many patients experience temporary hair loss. It’s normal for your hair to fall out for a few weeks after the procedure. After this initial period, you can expect steady hair growth from your transplanted patches of scalp tissue.

Dr. Blumenauer monitors your hair growth after surgery to determine the number of treatments you may need. After a few months, he may ask you to return to Oceana Aesthetics for additional grafts to achieve your desired fullness. Alternatively, periodic maintenance with platelet rich plasma injections (PRP), can be beneficial.
