Liposuction

Liposuction targets fat removal through insertion of specialized cannulas into the subcutaneous fat. These cannulas are connected to suction tubing and powered by a suction device. The areas intended for liposuction are infiltrated with a solution that routinely contains lidocaine and epinephrine to help reduce discomfort and bleeding during the procedure.

Liposuction may be performed alone or used in conjunction with other procedures to maximize body sculpting. Liposuction can be performed safely in many locations on the body. There are several types of liposuction devices, cannula types and techniques used for body contouring.

The key to achieving the results you want is having a surgeon who is experienced in liposuction and is safe. Florida regulations limit the maximum amount of lipoaspirate to 4 liters in outpatient-based surgery. If liposuction is performed with another procedure such as a tummy tuck, the maximum lipoaspirate is 1 liter.

Following liposuction, compression garments or wraps will be applied to help reduce swelling and improve body contouring.
